Setting up your Fanatec H-pattern/Sequential Shifter
By Aaron Lask
The H-pattern/Sequential shifter is offered across our range of simulators. There is a slightly different configuration process for the Pro and Clubsport models due to the steering motors used. However, the process to configure each gear is very similar.
The shifter switches between H-pattern and Sequential mode using the switch on either side of the shifter casing. To properly calibrate the shifter, you need to have it in H-pattern mode. Reverse and 7th gear are engaged by pushing down on the shifter knob.
The Knobs are easily interchangeable. Just rotate the knob anti-clockwise to remove the knob and do up by rotating the knob clockwise.
Calibrating your shifter

Clubsport Simulator - Fanatec CSW wheel base
The shifter connects directly to the wheel base in the "Shifter" port using the long cable with RJ45 connectors (like a telephone cable).
Once wired up, power on the motor base and click the "Configure" and "Start" buttons on your steering wheel as shown in the attached guide. Please proceed to follow instructions in the guide.
Clubsport Simulator - Fanatec DD1 wheel base
The shifter connects directly to the wheel base in the "Shifter 1" port using the long cable with RJ45 connectors (like a telephone cable). It is important "Shifter 1" is used, not "Shifter 2" as "Shifter 2" is limited to sequential only.
Once wired up, power on the motor base. On the computer launch the "Fanatec Control Panel" application from your Desktop or Start Menu. Double click on either of the "Fanatec DD1" controllers listed (Fig 1). Head to the "Settings" tab and click "Configure H-pattern shifter" (Fig 2). Follow the gear selection as dictated on screen to calibrate Neutral and gears 1-7 and Reverse.
Once you have calibrated the shifter, head back to the main dashboard for the DD1 controller, where you see the diagram of the connected wheel. We recommend ticking the "map paddles to shifter", which will allow you to use the sequential shifter or paddles without reconfiguring the controller settings in the simulator.
Pro I & Pro II Simulators
The Pro series of simulators use professional direct drive steering motors and as a result they required a USB adapter to use the shifter. The USB adapter should be pre-installed ready for use with a RJ45 connector (like a telephone cable) coming out from the main base of the simulator. Connect this cable to the shifter itself.
Once wired up, you need to launch the "Game Controllers" application from the Desktop or Start Menu. Double click on the "Fanatec Clubsport USB Adapter" where you can then configure the shifter following the directions in the software.
Assigning the shifter in the software
Now that the shifter is calibrated, you will need to assign the gears in each simulator. Each simulator title is slightly different, but each will require each input (e.g. Gear 1) to be highlighted followed by putting the shifter into the physical gear.
The following will explain how setup the shifter in each simulation title.
iRacing
Launch into a practice/race session and open up the options window. At the top right of the window you will see the gears and a button underneath called "Configure". Click the button and follow the on-screen guided instructions. You will be asked to setup the sequential mode and then configure the H-pattern shifter by selecting each gear.
Note, iRacing can only have one sequential shifter configured at a time - the shifter or the paddles on your wheel. You can select "use custom controls on this car" at the bottom left to use shifter/paddles on different cars and for the settings to be stored.
Assetto Corsa, rFactor, rFactor 2, Project Cars etc
Most of the simulator titles on the market have a very similar interfaces for setting the controls. Head to the Options/Settings section of the menu, click "Controls" and go into the shifter section. Select the gear (e.g. Gear 1) and move the shifter into position. Some simulator titles will register the 'shift' on moving into gear, others on the return to neutral.
Dirt Rally, Race Room etc
A small selection of titles have the ability to assign the same input across multiple controllers. This means you can setup paddles and shifter to shift up/down as well as assign multiple the same input in sim to multiple steering wheels.
Troubleshooting
Applies to Pro II : When opening up "Game Controllers" and clicking on the USB adapter the control panel is not brought up.
This can mean that the drivers that allow the shifter to operate are not correctly installed. Please install the latest Fanatec drivers. Upon completing the installation, you will be asked to restart the PC. After restart the shifter should appear correctly.
